Bricklayers can work on a variety of sites and projects, this could include working on large commercial developments, new housing builds, extensions and more.


A Bricklayer will lay bricks, blocks and other types of building components in mortar in order to construct and repair walls, foundations and other structures including chimney stacks. You may also be involved in refurbishing brickwork and masonry during restoration projects. The apprentice will learn construction techniques, health and safety, how to use levelling devices, customer service, types of materials and selecting appropriate tools.

The apprentice will learn, work, earn and achieve a qualification all at the same time.

To achieve the apprenticeship they will complete the following:

• An industry designed and recognised apprenticeship

 The apprentice will work towards the following Functional Skills:

• Mathematics up to Level 2

• English up to Level 2

How will it be delivered?

Apprentices will be assessed during the End Point Assessment stage, where they will undertake:

  • Knowledge Assessment
  • Skills Test
  • Oral Questioning - underpinned by portfolio

Entry requirements

For learners who have not achieved GCSEs (A-C or equivalent) in Maths and English will have to undertake Functional Skills in English and Maths.

Upon completion of the Apprenticeship, the Apprentice may progress into employment within the sector or complete further studies related to their area of work.
