This course is designed for learners who are interested in learning about the sector alongside other fields of study, with a view to progressing to a wide range of higher education courses, not necessarily in applied science. Students will have the opportunity to carry out practical procedures to a high degree of accuracy, communicate there findings and develop a broad understanding of Science.


Students study 4 units: 

  • Principles and applications of science 
  • Practical scientific procedures and techniques
  • Science investigation skills
  • one option unit.

How will it be delivered?

75% of the course is assignment based centered around practical skills and key scientific understanding. 25% of the course is examined. Students must achieve at least a pass on all aspects to achieve a qualification on the course.

Entry requirements

Min 4 in a GCSE Combined Science + 4 other Grade 9-4 GCSEs (must include a 4 in English and Maths)



Your next steps...

Students often use BTEC applied Science to complement A-level Biology or BTEC sport. Many of our students then go on to courses such as Sports Science and Forensic Science. Others are successful in applying for apprenticeships.
