Do you want to pursue a career in the sports industry? Are you interested in the science behind sporting success, such as how nutrition improves results?

This qualification supports a huge range of careers in the sports industry, and progression to degree level study. 


The topics you study will prepare you for a varied range of roles and degree level courses, and ensure you are prepared for your future in this vibrant and rewarding sector. The range of topics you will study increases in line with the qualification level of your studies, but includes: 

  • Functional anatomy
  • Applied sport and exercise psychology 
  • Coaching for performance and fitness 
  • Biomechanics in Sport Science 
  • Specialised fitness training 
  • Physical activity for individual and group based exercise 

Be enhanced with a range of exciting trips and visits. Current students have developed their skills and knowledge through placements at Opta Sports, visits to the English Institute of Sport and physical activity at Rokt and outdoor challenge centres. 

This is a highly interactive course that will provide you with an excellent understanding of a wide range of sports pathways. The course has a strong practical element, which you will complete in our state of the art facilities including our Fitness Suite, Sports Barn, Sports Hall and Fitness Lab. 

There’s plenty of opportunities outside of your studies too such as the chance to gain your coaching qualification.

How will it be delivered?

Assessment is via presentations, group work and assignments and externally assessed exams. Your work will be graded at pass, merit or distinction giving you an overall grade at the end of the course.

Entry requirements

Grade 4 in GCSE PE or a pass in a vocational equivalent and one grade 4 within GCSE Single or Combined Science grades or a pass in a vocational Level 2 Science qualification.  General entry criteria will also apply.  This is available on our website.
