Have you ever wondered why some people can run faster than others, why elite athletes are at the top of their game, or how it is possible to run 100m in under ten seconds? Then this subject could be for you!
This qualification involves both practical activity and academic theory that allows you to improve your performance, and that of others.


This course will see you studying topics that will develop your knowledge and understanding of the physiological, psychological and sociological aspects of Physical Education. Some of the topics you will study include:

• Applied anatomy and physiology
• Skill acquisition
• Sport and society
• Exercise physiology
• Biomechanical movement
• Sport psychology
• Technological developments

You will learn in our state of the art facilities including Sports Barn, Fitness Lab, Fitness Suite and Sports Hall. Combined with our fantastic classroom facilities, our experienced and knowledgeable team will help you to experience a challenging and enjoyable learning experience.

How will it be delivered?

The course has two examinations accounting for 70% of your final grade plus a practical assessment, 15% where you will be assessed as a performer or a coach, and 15% written coursework.

Entry requirements

Grade 5 in GCSE Biology or grade 5 in the Biology element of GCSE Combined Science plus grade 4 in GCSE PE, if taken. If GCSE PE is not taken then evidence of good performance in a named sport will be considered.
