Do you enjoy your GCSE Spanish studies? Do you want to be able to confidently communicate in written and spoken Spanish with a high level of grammatical ability? Whether you intend to work in a field where you will speak a second language on a daily basis, or want to benefit from an expanded vocabulary and wider writing style, then A Level Spanish could be for you!
The topics you study will build on your GCSE studies and ensure you move towards speaking Spanish fluently. Topics you will study include:
• Education and employment in Spain or the Spanish speaking world
• Family life in Spanish culture
• Literature and films of Spain
• Equality and diversity in the Spanish speaking world
• Immigration of Spain
• Spanish history
• Young people and technology in Spain
• The Media and their influence in Spain
There will also be specific weekly grammar lessons as grammar is an important element of the A Level course, and is tested and practiced through translations, both from and to the target language.
To practice your speaking, there will be a 30 minute weekly slot with the language assistant where you can sit back, relax and practice what you have learnt in class with a native speaker.
Your learning experience will see you developing the ability to confidently communicate in written and spoken Spanish with a high level of grammatical accuracy.
Each week you will spend half an hour with a native Spanish speaker. This will help to ensure you put your learning into action, challenge your skills and give you real life experience of speaking your second language.
You will learn in a supportive environment where small group tasks will build your confidence, and our helpful teaching staff provide all the support you need to excel.
We have well established links with colleges on the continent, which offers you the chance to visit overseas destinations, including as part of an exchange programme.
The assessment is 100% examination. You will be tested through an oral assessment (30%), listening, reading and translation (50%) and writing (20%)
