Overview

This course is suitable for those who wish to specialise in barbering. You will gain a thorough understanding of how to effectively deliver hair services to men. If you want to have a recognised qualification which may lead to job opportunities in the barbering industry, then this course is for you.

Details

This is an intensive training programme. You will study the following units:

•Health and Safety in the salon

•Working in the hair industry

•Client consultation for hair services

•Shampoo and condition hair and scalp

•Promote products/services to clients in a salon

•Create an image based on a theme

•Cut men’s hair using barbering techniques

•Cut facial hair to shape using basic techniques

•Styling men’s hair

•Salon reception duties

•Display stock to promote sales in the salon

•Colour and lighten men’s hair

You will also be required to participate in compulsory in-house College competitions.

How will it be delivered?

You will be assessed by continuous assessment and practical observations. You will be guided and encouraged to take responsibility for your own learning and provide male clients for training and assessments purposes.

Entry requirements

•You need to hold a minimum of three GCSEs at grade D or above

•You will have to undertake an initial assessment

•You should have a genuine interest in pursuing barbering as a career

•You are required to do home study for the theory part of the course as well as attending the evening course

•Personal presentation plays a very important part in the process of becoming a competent barber

•You should possess creative skills and an interest in fashion

•You should enjoy communication with members of the general public and should have a commitment to intensive training

•You will normally take part in an interview prior to being enrolled on the programme
